Alltra-Loop™ Installation

The Alltec Industries, Inc. adjustable pre-formed loop can be used in almost any installation. It is rugged enough to be buried in any surface material, and is flexible enough to fit almost any size and shape required. Because loop positioning, shape and size varies considerably, we recommend you refer to the equipment manufacturers instructions for the loop needs of any particular installation. The following are some basics we consider standard for any loop installation.

1. No gate should be installed without safety loops.
2. Loops should be in the center of the controlled drive with a maximum of four feet on
each side.
3. Loops should not be within three feet of a moving slide, swing, lift gate or metal door
to avoid sensing the gate or door.
4. Loops for slide gates and overhead doors should not have more than 10 feet
between them.
5. Barrier gates should always have a safety loop directly under the gate arm.

DIGGING

Mark the placement and shape of the loop you need according to the equipment manufacturers specifications. Mark the lead-in required to connect to the equipment.

Dig the trench. Two inches is wide enough and, if the surface is going to be paved, two inches deep is sufficient. If there is going to be no pavement, dig deep enough, at least six inches, to be sure the loop will remain buried.

Note: Because the Alltra-Loop ™ is not crushable and is totally
flexible, depth consistency and straightness is not critical.

Place the loop in the trench. Adjust the position until any excess loop is laying straight in the lead-in portion of the trench. Note that the lead-in doubles and gets longer as the loop gets smaller. See the sketch below.

Tie wrap the doubled portion of the lead-in every 12 inches to secure it.

Feed the lead-in into the equipment through the proper means (see manufacturers instructions). You do not need conduit to protect the lead-in from the elements, however, if vandalism or physical damage is a concern, you may want to use conduit wherever the lead-in is exposed.

The Alltra-Loop ™ has a minimum of 20 feet of lead-in. This is enough for most applications. However, if a longer lead-in is required, run conduit to the end of the lead-in and splice. Be sure the splice is in a weatherproof box and the extended lead-in is twisted at least 5 twists per foot.

Refill the trench and compact it as much as possible.

CONNECTING THE WIRES

Cut off any excess lead-in and strip off the outer casing. Cut off the black wire.

Twist the green and white wire up to 1 inch from the end.

Use the appropriate connectors to connect the green and white wires to the loop wires of the detector or loop terminals provided by the manufacturer of the equipment.

Note: If more than one loop is being connected to the same detector, you may connect the Alltra-Loop ™ in series or parallel as needed for the application.

Alltra-Loop™ Slide Gate Loop Positioning

Positioning safety loops for slide gates has just a couple of considerations:
1. Loops should be in the center of the controlled driveway with a maximum of four feet on each side.
2. Loops should not be any closer than three feet from a slide gate or overhead door.
3. Loops for slide gates and doors should not have more than ten feet between them.

The sketch below shows typical loop positioning for a slide gate or door.
